As I sat in the hairdressers a few weeks ago one of the team was talking about a book they’d just finished that for them was a must read, and despite its 4 pages of trigger warnings it still over delivered. I’ll admit, I was intrigued, especially with a warning about inappropriate use of a femur bone. Sometimes you just have to know..
If you’re into intense romance with a twist, you might want to check out Gigi Styx’s Pen Pal Duet: I Will Break You and I Will Mend You. This duet is a rollercoaster of emotions, filled with passion, intrigue, and a plot that will keep you hooked from start to finish️ if thats your thing.
The main plot of the duet is undeniably intriguing. It revolves around a mysterious pen pal relationship that evolves into something much deeper and darker. The characters are complex, and their interactions are charged with tension and chemistry. Gigi Styx does a fantastic job of building suspense and keeping readers on the edge of their seats.
However, as much as I enjoyed the storyline, I felt that the plot constantly got lost in the smut. Don’t get me wrong, the steamy scenes are well-written and definitely add to the intensity of the relationship, but there were moments when I wished the focus would shift back to the main plot. It felt like the balance between the romance and the storyline was a bit off at times.
And then there’s the ending. Without giving too much away, the conclusion of I Will Mend You takes a turn towards revenge that felt a bit too extreme for my taste. It was a bold move by the author, but it left me feeling a bit unsettled. The revenge plotline overshadowed the emotional resolution I was hoping for, making the ending feel more jarring than satisfying. ️
If you’re looking for a duet that combines romance, mystery, and more than a handful of X rated scenes, the Pen Pal Duet by Gigi Styx is worth a read. Just be prepared for a wild ride and an ending that might leave you with mixed feelings. However I would ask that you do take note of the trigger warnings, this book isnt for everyone and was very awkward when sat around the campfire I was asked what I was reading. FYI i said a book about a young girl with mental health challenges who falls for an inmate on death row, luckily noone asked any further questions.
