‘Anywhere’ by Sarah Sprinz: A Modern Spin on School Life and Relationships

Anywhere by Sarah Sprinz jumped out as it it was academia but normal. And by that I mean no magic, no dragons, vampires or werewolves. Feels like a rarity these days.

The story comes with a warning for explicit content but in comparison to other new adult books its tame, which was also a refreshing change. The story focused on what was actually happening in the lives of Emma and Henry rather than detailing every action between the sheets.

This feels like a modern, grown up version of Malory Towers. A mixture of students at a beautiful boarding school that encourages sports, school pride and midnight sneak outs.

We learn alot about Emma as our main character but equally feel that through her and Henrys own chapters we learn about him. The one thing i struggled with was really seeing the characters. Normally you can paint a pretty good picture in your head that would almost pass for a CSI sketch artist. I couldnt really describe anyone beyond, sporty/ athletic. Hair / eye colour, even hair styles and skin colour. They dont really make a difference to the plot but it also makes it harder to really see them, to imagine the story rather than read it.

Theres clearly mysteries that havent yet been unravelled at the school, which Im hoping get played out through the books to follow.

Its an easy read with likable cast of characters, you might judge them but you’ll also understand them!
