Anyone else sometimes lose a few hours on Booktok? One of the people I follow is Tierney Page – mainly because she makes me chuckle with her descriptions of ‘romance’ books. Now, shes written her own book, The Other Brother. I had to give it a go.
If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted romance with a touch of drama, this book might just be your next favorite.
Plot Overview (No Spoilers, Pinky Promise!)
The story follows our two main characters April and James. April finds herself in a dark place after her fiancee is caught with his hand in the cookie jar, so to speak. As she navigates her feelings, supported by her friends April realised she likes her ex’s brother just a little more than she feels she should. Page digs into the complexities of their relationship, we get to see a mix of heartwarming moments, misunderstandings, and a fair share of romantic tension. It’s a classic love triangle, but with an absent party!
A Breezy Read
One thing that stood out to me about “The Other Brother” is how effortlessly the story flows. The dialogue is snappy, the chemistry is palpable, and the plot moves along at a brisk pace. It’s the kind of book you can easily devour in a weekend.
Almost Too Easy?
While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I couldn’t help but feel that some parts were a bit too convenient. The conflicts resolved themselves a little too smoothly, and the characters seemed to find their way out of what in many books would be a tricky situations with surprising ease. It’s like everything just fell into place a bit too perfectly. But hey, sometimes we need a story where things work out without too much angst, right?
Final Thoughts
Overall, “The Other Brother” is a delightful read that offers a perfect escape from reality. It’s light, fun, and filled with charming moments that will leave you with a smile on your face. If you’re looking for a feel-good romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously, give this one a try. Just be prepared for a few plot points that might feel a tad too convenient.
