Why We Love Richard Osman’s We Solve Murders

Theres always been book series that I ve shared with my nan. Intiially it started with Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwell but these days our author of choice is Richard Osman.

The Murder club books are fun, entertaining and still have that whodunnit storyline we love, so when his new series was announced we were excited, we preordered the ebook and off we went on our reading journey. Me in bed for puppy cuddles (and someone to talk through my theories with) and my nan sat in her comfy reading chair.

Osman clearly likes writing about the older generation as MCs but he gives them personalities that are often larger than life and you easily forget their age. We Solve Murders is another example of how you can twist things and often age and experience can trump youth and eagerness.

When bodyguard Amy realises theres a problem shes ends up on the run with a world famous author and her father in law. All three have very different personalities that mesh well and encourage people to be on their side.

The fast paced storyline feels like something is always happening and with short snappy chapters its easy to lose track of time once you open the book.

As the trio jet around the world trying to work out who wants to kill them, solve some murders and find out what happened to Amys boss we end up with more questions than answers, but sometimes thats exactly what you need.

I think I prefer this series to the murder club series. Less MC’s make the story easier to follow rather than having to remember alot of similar types of people. Theres wit, murder and internatal relations – whats not to love about it!

For us the books are fun, easy to read and the fast pace means sometimes you feel like you need to put the book down just to catch your breath. And, it wasnt an obvious easy one to solve for either of us which is always a winner!
