Born of Blood and Ash is the latest installment in the A Flesh and Fire series by Jennier L Armentrout. I hope if youre reading this then youve worked you way through the previous three books – if you havent this isnt really one thats worth jumping straight into. You can but you’ll have missed so so much.
I was lucky enough to spot the preorder bonus aswell, a book mark and temporary tattoo. I love both and Im a little suprised that for us UK readers we can not only access this opportunity but that its sent from accross the pond. I feel that it must have cost more to send me this then what I paid for the book.
We’re back with the newly crowned Queen of the gods, primal of life – Sera, and her very own dark knight, Ash, the primal god of the dead. After escaping Kolis they are back in their court and theres alot to unpick. Im still have to concentrate with names because some are similar and some people have more than one thats regually used.

No-one wants an all out war, at least thats what the suggestion is. Sera want to be good, she wants to be better but deep down shes a stabby vengeful creature with limited self control – its not going to be easy for her.
Theres some hints along the way, some great moments and some that for the first time with JLA’s book really annoyed me.
I didnt need to hear about teeth (fangs?) clashing as they kiss, repeatedly. Its just not good in real life, or fantasy, once was more than enough. Sera has some neurosis, we know this, you couldnt have had her past and not, but she fixates, and focuses on minor things that just get repeated. It felt like I was having the same conversation over and over.
So, did I enjoy the book? Yes, but I think if I wasnt a JLA fan and this writing style had been my first experience no matter how much I liked the characters and the actual story it would have put me off. Now if you’ll excuse me I think Im off to find some Nektas Fan art..
