Embracing Breaks: A Review of The Burnout

I was lucky enough to be a runner up last year for a newsletter comp. I won a £50 spabreaks voucher, some heated eyemasks from sensory retreats ( they are amazing, I just wish they were reuseable) and most importantly a hardback copy of The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella.

Im glad I didnt read the reviews in advance as there seems to be alot of thumbs down for this book on goodreads. I dont undrestand why. This move makes you chuckle and is easy to read. Perfect when you want an easy escape.

Sasha as the main character is overworked. Shes easy to sympathise with, sometimes emails come in, tasks pile up and you just dont have enough hours in the day. It gets to us all, but when its constant something has to break. She ends up travelling to her childhood family holiday destination, the weather might not be great, the hotel and its staff reminds me of the best exotic marigold hotel and the only other guests are also unhappy.

Finn steals her sitting rock, means she has to share the beach and is an angry man but when they discover messages on the beach, and that they’re both in a similar situation they defrost.

I really enjoyed the story, yes some things were just ridiculous but when you have an interferring parent who is just trying to help, you dont naturally speak up and you are so tired sometimes its easier to just go with it. The story shows Sashas emotions, and that she really does care, along wiht being a great example that sometimes you just need to take a break. A real break. A lesson we could all learn.

Id love to say im off to be more healthy, to drink my noni juice and do some yoga, but its vacuuming then onto my next book for me. Faebound has just arrived on my kindle so that’s already calling.

The Breakout is out now.
